Desalination in Egypt
Egypt operated 125 desalination plants with a combined capacity of 1.3 million m³/day, according to figures reported in September 2025. The government's plan is to reach 8.8 million m³/day by 2050.
Large state plants include East Port Said (150,000 m³/day, delivered in 2021 by Orascom Construction and Metito) and El Alamein (150,000 m³/day, completed in 2019 by FCC and Aqualia). In 2026 the Minister of Housing directed that plants above 10,000 m³/day be offered to private companies for operation and maintenance, naming Matruh, El Alamein, El Dabaa, Ras Sedr, El Tor, Dahab, Nuweiba, Abu Zenima, Sharm El-Sheikh, Arish and Al-Yusr in Hurghada.

In the Safa retrofit the operator reported that energy use fell from 6 kWh/m³ to 2.7 kWh/m³. The PX-260 belongs to Energy Recovery's 65 series, which we continue to quote: see ERI PX spare parts.
What we supply
- Energy Recovery PX pressure exchangers: units, ceramic cartridges and seal kits; ERI turbocharger and pump spares.
- FilmTec and Toray seawater membranes, 8-inch and 4-inch.
- High-pressure pumps: Danfoss APP service kits and wear parts, mechanical seals.
- Codeline pressure vessel parts and FEDCO turbocharger kits.
Importing into Egypt: what we prepare
- ACID number on the documents. Egypt's Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system applies to sea freight and, since 1 January 2026, to all air freight. The Egyptian importer requests the ACID number on the Nafeza platform; we put it on the invoice and it must appear on the air waybill.
- Filing through CargoX. The shipping documents are filed electronically through CargoX before departure, at least 8 hours before the flight for air freight: invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and transport document.
- Small urgent parcels. There is currently an exception for express shipments of up to 50 kg and USD 2,000 in value.
- Payment. Documentary collection is accepted again: the Central Bank of Egypt decided in October 2022 to phase out the letter-of-credit-only rule. The payment method is agreed with each order.
- Legalisation. Egyptian rules require consular legalisation of the invoice and certificate of origin in most cases. Tell us if your bank or customs agent asks for it, because it adds time.
These rules change. Check the current requirement with your customs agent before ordering.
